Liftware is a motorized eating utensil that steadies a spoon against hand tremor during meals. It does not treat Parkinson's disease or stop tremor outside eating.
For people with Parkinson's-related tremor, it offers help at the table. Research shows reduced shaking for holding and eating in mild-to-moderate tremor. Lower-cost weighted spoons work as well for many people.

How do Steady and Level work?
Liftware Steady uses motion sensors and two motors to move the spoon opposite hand tremor. It was designed for people with Parkinson's or essential tremor. Liftware Level self-levels for limited arm mobility. The Biosensors review via the U.S.
National Library of Medicine describes this design in the Biosensors review. Both tools assist only the act of eating. They do not retrain muscles or change disease course. The clearest use is keeping food on the spoon while lifting and eating.
What did small feeding studies find?
A University of Michigan pilot study tested active cancellation in 15 people with essential tremor. Holding tremor fell about 72%, eating tremor about 76%, and transferring about 71%. Medical News Today reported the study release in the Medical News Today report.

A later 22-person feeding study included Parkinson's-related and essential tremor. Participants preferred Liftware Steady and a weighted spoon with standard handle about equally. The PubMed abstract for the American Journal of Occupational Therapy study reports no significant preference difference in the PubMed abstract.
Where are the limits?
Liftware only assists eating and does not cure tremor or Parkinson's disease. Neurologist Jill Ostrem, quoted by Tech Times, noted patients still have tremor. Benefit was clearest for mild-to-moderate tremor and holding and eating tasks.
Long-term support is uncertain after Alphabet's Verily closed its medical-device program in August 2025. TechCrunch reported the shift toward AI and data infrastructure in the TechCrunch report. Liftware buyers should confirm current availability, warranty, and replacement parts before paying.
What steps make meals easier now?
Parkinson's UK occupational-therapy guidance recommends a personal assessment for adapted eating tools and mealtime setup. An occupational therapist can match utensils, plates, and timing to hand tremor and arm movement. Bring your usual spoon and examples of spilled meals to the visit.
- Ask for trials of adapted cutlery, raised-rim plates, and non-slip mats
- Time meals to good medication windows when movement is easier
- Compare lower-cost weighted or built-up utensils during real eating
- List hardest tasks, such as lifting, scooping, or carrying food to mouth
